One of the types of vitamin C is Ascorbic acid that is present naturally in most foods. Ascorbic acid is too acidic and some people are not able to tolerate high doses. An extra dose of Ascorbic acid is given to the people who don’t get enough vitamin C in their diet. It helps to fight bacterial infections. Ascorbic acid is an antioxidants agent that helps in detoxifying reaction and collagen formation in bones, skins, teeth, fibrous tissue, capillaries, and connective tissues. It is mostly found in citrus fruits and vegetables. Bioflavonoids are another vitamin C type. It is a compound mostly found in vitamin C-rich plant foods. It helps in the absorption of Vitamin C, increases bioavailability, and provides extra immune benefits.

Bioflavonoids in plants help to regulate growth and reduce stress. When they are consumed then they show anti-oxidizing and free radical scavenging abilities. It also results in anti-inflammatory activities and offers metabolic, anti-cancer, cardiovascular, and potential antiviral benefits too. Mineral ascorbates is another vitamin C type that is also referred to as ‘buffered’ Vitamin C. It is a mineral salt, which is less acidic in comparison to others and is mostly consumed by people who can’t tolerate acidic food. Another type is Time-release Vitamin C. It gets released into the body slowly and is more effective than a single large dose. It ensures improved Vitamin bioavailability. Ester-C is another Vitamin C type that contains calcium ascorbate. It has a better anti-scorbutic activity. Those who are sensitive to acidic food can consume Ester-C as it is better absorbed and excreted easily as compared to ascorbic acid.

Why Consume Extra Vitamin C

It is essential to ensure vitamin C in the diet as it is water-soluble and is not stored in the body. Human beings can’t produce it on their own too. It is important to consume it to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and to prevent infection, chronic stress, and illness. It also offers an immune-supportive role, leads to the growth of repair tissue, and heals wounds and scars. Therefore, 90mg of the daily value of calcium is essential.
